New Approaches to Understanding Chinese State Capitalism
Published at : September 21, 2021
Chinese state capitalism blurs the relationship between commercial actors and the party-state in ways that have no direct comparison in market-oriented liberal democracies. While policymakers have long sounded the alarm on China's use of the commercial sector to pursue national security objectives, the complexity and unfamiliarity of state-business relations in China pose serious challenges for rule of law-oriented systems.
On Thursday, September 16, the CSIS Freeman Chair will host Jason Arterburn, Program Director at C4ADS, to discuss opportunities for using new data solutions in addressing the challenge of Chinese state capitalism. The event will coincide with the release of Party Capital: A Blueprint for National Security Due Diligence on China, a new report from C4ADS demonstrating methods in using publicly available information to address national security threats in China's commercial system.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
